Cheap Drawing Tablet – Tipping Tuesday .002

Today’s tip is going to do with digital art and a way to get a cheap drawing tablet that will still work well. Nowadays, tablets with a screen are a big thing. However, a few years ago graphics tablets used to be just an input device without the screen. Some of them are still available as used units on marketplaces like Ebay.

A little history

When I was a little kid, it was my dream to draw digitally. I only had a mouse for a long time, and I dreamed of a tablet. When I got my first job, I saved up several paychecks and bought Wacom Intuos 3 large tablet. I consider that to be one of the best investments of my life, as I still use that tablet to this day. Sure, I got an iPad now, and it’s great, but it kills my neck if I work on it all day. That’s one of the beautiful things about tablets without the screen. One doesn’t have to stare down at it. Instead, one can just look at the screen in a comfortable for the neck position. It does take a few days to get used to, but afterwards it will be a second nature and a pleasure to draw.

Which model to buy

The model of my old Wacom drawing tablet is available on Ebay at a steal of a price for around $30-40 USD. However, one must be careful to find the correct tablet and get a full set. The tablet model is Wacom Intuos 3 Large 9″ by 12″. Please keep in mind that Intuos Pro are the new tablets, and they are much pricier. Additionally, be sure to get a tablet with a pen as a set. New pens don’t work on old tablets. I have Wacom One tablet as well, and I tested the pen on my old Wacom, it did not work. My tablet came with a mouse, which is not really required, and a pen stand, which adds a level of comfort.

Photograph of an old generation Wacom graphics tablet without a screen. It looks like a gray, slightly raised pad on the table. It has an inner area for drawing and buttons at the top of each side of it. There's a Wacom pen in the silver pen holder on top of the tablet in this photo.

Look into the past if you want to get a cheap drawing tablet! Buy a used oldie such as my Wacom Intuos 3 and endeavor on your digital journey!
